American Journal of Trade and Policy offers multiple article types to maximize your options for disseminating policy-related works. Only article types that appear in the drop-down menu during the submission process are available for submission to the selected section.

Please ensure that any manuscript you submit to the American Journal of Trade and Policy conforms to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) recommendations for ethics, as well as to the journal requirements. All submitted manuscripts will be checked using plagiarism-detection software.

American Journal of Trade and Policy articles (except Law Reviews) are peer-reviewed, receive a DOI, are citable, are published in PDF format, are submitted for preservation in Portico, and are submitted for indexing in relevant platforms.

ARTICLE TYPES

Research Articles 

Original Research articles report on primary and unpublished studies. Original Research may also encompass confirming studies and disconfirming results, which allow hypothesis elimination, reformulation, and/or report on the non-reproducibility of previously published results.

Original Research articles are peer-reviewed, have a maximum word count of 6,000, and may contain no more than 10 Figures/Tables.

Authors are required to pay a fee to publish a Research article.

First Decision: Maximum 60 Days  
Referencing: APA Style

Original Research articles should have the following format: 1) Abstract, 2) Introduction, 3) Materials and Methods, 4) Results, 5) Discussion.

Policy and Practice Reviews

Policy & Practice Reviews provide comprehensive coverage and a balanced overview of current and relevant topics in policy, regulations, and guidelines from academia, societies, regulatory bodies, industries, and other sources.

In contrast to Policy Briefs, this article type provides authors with more space to elaborate on policies and/or guidelines.

Policy & Practice Reviews are peer-reviewed, have a maximum word count of 5,000, and may contain no more than 8 Figures/Tables.

Authors are required to pay a fee to publish a Policy & Practice Review.

First Decision: Maximum 60 Days  
Referencing: APA Style

Policy & Practice Reviews should have the following format: 1) Abstract, 2) Introduction, 3) Sections on assessment of policy/guidelines options and implications, 4) Actionable Recommendations, 5) Discussion.

Law Reviews

Law Review articles present a synthesis of prior research on a given topic, using systematic, clearly defined methods to identify, categorize, analyze, and report aggregated evidence on that topic.

This article type includes meta-synthesis, meta-analysis, and systematic review with meta-analysis.

Law Review articles are peer-reviewed, have a maximum word count of 20,000, and may contain no more than 15 Figures/Tables.

Authors aren't required to pay a fee to publish a Law Review article.

Law reviews should: Clearly define the research question in terms of population, interventions, comparators, outcomes, and the state in which reporting guidelines were used in the study, including funding information.

Law Review articles should have the following format: 1) Abstract, 2) Introduction, 3) Methods (including study design; participants; interventions; comparators; systematic review protocol; search strategy; data sources; studies sections and data extraction; data analysis), 4) Review & Results (including a flow diagram of the studies retrieved for the review; study selection and characteristics; synthesized findings), 5) Discussion (including a summary of main findings; limitations; conclusions).
